While choosing new flooring for the kitchen, you will have to consider several factors like tone, color, quality of flooring material and most importantly, your budget.

It is the floor that sets the ‘tone’ of every room, so is the case of a Kitchen. The ‘tone’ of the kitchen-floor must match with the remaining parts of the kitchen-room. For a relaxed feel, an informal floor design may be preferred. Gently polished hard-wood floors along with stylish color-schemes can provide the kitchen a good formal feel and grace.

The color of the floor must be chosen so as to match with that of walls, cabinets, counter-tops and appliances. Pale color of the floor will match with the deep-colored wooden cabinet. Pale floor will reflect the light and light-up your kitchen.

If you prefer wood-flooring and the cabinets are also made of wood, you should choose a bit lighter or darker color than the color of cabinets because the similar colors may make your kitchen ‘boring’. Neutral colors are always best.

If your kitchen is colorful, the neutral colors of floor with help other color stand in the kitchen. Other advantage of the neutral colors is that you will not be forced to change it if you change the other colors in the kitchen later.

As far as flooring material is concerned, almost every flooring-material is good for kitchen. Laminate, wood and ceramic make the floor sound. Carpeting muffle and vinyl are better. If you are choosing carpeting, it is advisable to avoid thick-pile and not to put it below hot appliances.

Instead, you may use a carpet for the central area where you will feel comfortable bare-footed. Choose a material that is stain-resistant. It will be wise to use an eco-friendly material so that it may be re-used or recycled after ending its life as Kitchen-floor.

While going to choose a material for kitchen floor, you should also consider the important aspect of foot traffic in your kitchen. For a busy household having a lot of children, dogs, cats etc. romping in and around the kitchen, durability of the flooring material is an important issue.

Therefore, before purchasing the flooring material, you should check-out the durability of the material as well as warranty information.

You may choose any type of material, but it is advisable to remain within your budget. You should choose a material that looks well and should not require replacement after a small time period.

Tiles are less costly then wooden floors. Therefore, discuss with your remodeling contractor on this issue. He may get the required material at a cheaper price through a factory outlet or wholesaler.
